A good project for teenagers (both LDS Church members and also their friends and neighbors) is SYI, Summer Youth Indexing. It is as fun and more fulfilling and productive than computer games they may play this summer. provides opportunity to learn about primary and secondary documents. They learn by indexing. Young Men and Young Women advisors should volunteer for Indexing so they can lead youth in wholesome summer activities. Give it a try.

Welcome (and some best practices)[edit source]

Thanks for contributing to FamilySearch Wiki! Youth Indexing sounds like a great project! However, the way in which it was posted on the wiki needs some tweaking. First, one policy of this wiki is to avoid posting doctrinal or spiritual material, including verbage about LDS temples. Keeping the wiki free of doctrinal material is the best way to avoid religion-based edit wars on the site. Based on that guideline, I've removed that verbage from your posts.

On a wiki, Talk pages behind each article exist so that the article's contributors can discuss what to include or exclude from the article. Your post about the youth indexing project is not about the Utah Census page, so that's not the best place to discuss it. However, the project sounds exciting and relevant to the scope of this wiki, so I'd recommend you post a new page about it. (Just be careful to avoid religious verbage about the temple, righteousness, and that sort of thing.) You can also post an event notice on the Utah page which leads to the page about the project! That'll actually get the project more visibility than where you originally posted it.

Hope all this makes sense. If you have any questions, please leave me a note on my user Talk page. Ritcheymt 15:42, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
