FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

The Logan Utah Family History Center, also known as the Logan Utah Large Multistake Center serves 36 Stakes in Cache Valley, which includes all of Cache County as well as a portion of south eastern Idaho. The Center averages 125 Missionaries trained to help about 17,000 patrons who visit the Center each year.  The Center is dedicated to providing education and support for the family history community in the Cache Valley area.

  • Monday, Friday, Saturday - 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • A variety of classes are taught at the Center.  Logan Utah FamilySearch Library/Class Schedule
  • We also invite ward or community leaders to request special classes for their group members. Select a topic from our current class description list or suggest another family history topic you need help with.  We will try to find an instructor.

Held at the Tabernacle on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m.  We invite staff members from other family history centers, or anyone else interested in learning more about family history, to join us.

Multimedia Center[edit | edit source]

Logan Family History Center has created an area where you can work with equipment consisting of a computer, scanner, printer and specialized software. With these resources you have the ability to:

  • Scan photos and transfer them to a flash drive or to a DVD. You can also make printed copies.Use the software to edit, enhance, correct, add to, or delete unwanted material from a photo-graph. Spots, scratches, creases, faded colors and other defects can be easily corrected.
  • Scan slides or negatives and print them on photo paper, or transfer them to your flash drive or DVD.
  • Compose flyers, posters or other documents using the art and photo editing software.
  • Create collages of photos and create photo albums. It is also possible to create different artistic effects on your photos such as borders, swirls, reflections and textures to name just a few. New photographs can also be "aged" by converting color photos to sepia, or black and white images.
  • Convert your photo files from one format to another ie. tiff to jpeg or visa versa.

Don't worry if you are not sure how to do all of this, there are members of the Center staff who are trained in the use of this equipment, and they would be happy to help you!

Oral History Room[edit | edit source]

What is an oral history?  

An oral history (as recorded at the Logan Center), is a video and audio record on a person’s life experiences.  The depth and detail of each history is determined by the person being recorded and the individual who is assisting by raising questions, providing support and encouragement and gently guiding the interview with a pre-determined list of questions.

Why create an oral history?  

  • Cicero, a Roman statesman who lived over 2000 years ago said “Not to know what happened before you were born is to remain perpetually a child. For what is the worth of the human soul unless it is woven into the lives of his ancestors?” Creating your personal history is a way of creating bonds between you and your descendants so that their lives can be woven into and connected to yours.
  • There are many reasons for creating an oral history. The primary reason that the Oral History Center was set up is to provide people an opportunity to share some of their personal history with living relatives and their descendants.

Types of oral histories. 

A history may consist of  a single session, or multiple sessions.  They may be recorded at home, at the Family History Center, or in the outdoors.  A staff member of the Center will be happy to discuss with you some of the options that are available.

Creating an oral history at our Center

  • We anticipate that most of the beginning histories will last approximately one hour after which time the staff member who is helping you will transfer your recording to a DVD for you to keep or share with other family memers.
  • We will charge a minimal fee of $5 to record and transfer your oral (video and audio) history to a DVD.
  • Call the Center (435-755-5594) to schedule a time.  
  • Review these basic instructions to help you prepare.
