Contents
Project Leader
Purpose
To fix the outdated tables on each parish page in Bedfordshire, England. These tables contain many broken links, are missing important databases, or list databases that are not very useful in finding vital records in England. The fourth part of this project with be adding links to the FamilySearch Catalog for both parish registers and bishop's transcripts.
Task List
Instructions
Step 1A
We will be adding to the FS Catalog PRs part of the table in this section. The code that we will be adding to looks like:
|- | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog PRs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | |-
It is found in this part of the code:
Step 1B
1. Go to the FamilySearch Catalog and search for the parish in Bedfordshire. In Place Search, search: England, Bedfordshire, PARISH.
2. Click on the "Church records" heading to find all of the parish registers collections available for the parish. (An example is shown below)
3. Find the collection title that says: "Parish registers for PARISH, COLLECTION YEARS". Make sure that the Author is "Church of England. Parish Church of PARISH (COUNTY)" and not a family history society or person. If the author is the Church of England AND a person or society, DO NOT add it (these are usually just transcriptions, not the actual images).
4. Click on the link to go to the collection's page and copy the URL.
Go back to the code (shown below). (The three spaces are the Images columns for Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials in the table.)
| bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog PRs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" |
5. Add the link you just copied for the FamilySearch Catalog parish registers collection to the three empty spaces. The link will look like: [URL '''COLLECTION YEARS''']
Example: for the parish of Binfield (image shown above), the parish registers collection is titled "Parish registers for Binfield, 1767-1910." This collection will be added to the table for Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials.
| bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog PRs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910'''] | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910'''] | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910''']
Take note:
- If there is more than one collection, separate the links by a comma and put them in chronological order (older records first)
- If there are no collections available for the parish, then delete the FS Catalog PRs section in the table
Step 2A
We will be adding to the FS Catalog BTs part of the table in this section. The code that we will be adding to looks like:
|- | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog BTs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | |-
It is found in this part of the code:
Step 2B
1. Go to the FamilySearch Catalog and search for the parish in Bedfordshire. In Place Search, search: England, Bedfordshire, PARISH.
2. Click on the "Church records" heading to find all of the bishop's transcripts collections available for the parish. (An example is shown below)
3. Find the bishop's transcripts collection titled "Bishop's transcripts for PARISH, COLLECTION YEARS".
(The three spaces are the Images columns for Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials in the table.)
| bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog BTs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" |
5. Add the link you just copied for the FamilySearch Catalog bishop's transcripts collection to the three empty spaces. The link will look like: [URL '''COLLECTION YEARS''']
Example: for the parish of Binfield (image shown above), the bishop's transcripts collection is titled "Bishop's transcripts for Binfield, 1607-1835." This collection will be added to the table for Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials.
| bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog BTs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835'''] | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835'''] | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835''']
Take note:
- If there is more than one collection, separate the links by a comma and put them in chronological order (older records first)
- If there are no collections available for the parish, then delete the FS Catalog BTs section in the table
Step 3
Go back to England Parish Tables: Bedfordshire Part 3 and move to Step 4.
Deleting Code
If there are no parish registers or bishop's transcripts collections (or if there are no images) then that part of the code must be deleted. There are two places that need to be deleted.
1. Delete the entire FS Catalog PRs or FS Catalog BTs code (7 lines) and the |- above it:
The new code will look something like:
2. Also delete the FS Catalog PRs (or BTs) line of code here (shown below) and the |- above it (found right underneath the "Church Records" heading):
The new code will look something like:
Example
For the parish of Binfield, one parish registers collection (from 1767-1910) and one bishop's transcripts collection (from 1607-1835) would be added.
The code looks like:
|- | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog PRs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910'''] | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910'''] | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/217914?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1767-1910'''] |- | bgcolor="#ffffcc" | '''FS Catalog BTs''' | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ffcccc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835'''] | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffcc" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835'''] | bgcolor="#ccffff" | <br> | bgcolor="#ccffff" | [https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/446199?availability=Family%20History%20Library '''1607-1835'''] |}
The table looks like:
