Brief History
[edit | edit source]

Washington was granted its charter on August 8, 1781 by the Vermont State Legislature.  Like Essex in Chittenden County and Chittenden in Rutland County, Washington is not in the county of the same name.  With nothing to contradict, it has alway been assumed to have been named for George Washington, as were all other so-named places in the US. The townof Washington had a population of 1,039 at the 2010 US Census.   [1] [2]
