Portal conversion Apulia (Puglia)[edit source]
We converted the Auplia (Puglia) to Apulia (Puglia) but the jurisdictions content was it's own page Apulia (Puglia) Jurisdictions. Should some of that jurisdictions content be added to the main Apulia page?
Problems making portal pages![edit source]
Hi Merrimanrl, I am having trouble working out how to make portal pages for
Can you explain or help me please?
I have worked it out.
Did you get it worked out? I was going to refer you to the "Get Started With This Site" section for instructions.
Yes I did, I ended up using this page "FamilySearchWiki:Portal_Instructions" (page existed in 2008) to create them. Thanks davide 22:34, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Hi Merrinanrl, I am working on fixing links that are "external" and need to be "internal". In the process, there were three links above (Portal pages) which were troublesome because those pages were deleted. Therefore I will be "unlinking" them on this page. Removal of all the pre-made catalogue searches[edit source]
I think that that basically reproduced the catalog and that's not the purpose of the Wiki. I left your suggestion to go to FamilySearch.org with the link and explanations. Once they're in the catalog, they can do the searches...they don't need to be led to each of them from the Wiki. What do you think? I just don't think the Wiki is the place for them.
Hi Ruth, I agreed that we should not reproduce the catalog, and I was not. I created the the premade searchs to match the following page ( Welsh Records) and so that eventually each country would have shortcut links to the catalog (instead of coping pasting which for a lot of beginners is beyond them). I am waiting on Jim the Sysop to come back with an answer on the LDS statistics for (microfilms, microfiche, books, electronic resources, maps) on Italy and if it can also be done for the other countries. Which is in the scope of providing more information people on the wiki. davide 11:25, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
I have some stats I got last month that I will be using in a class that I'm teaching in Italy this month. We have a little over 85,000 microfilms, 3,000 microfiche (the stats come back as 3 because so many have the same number, but I cataloged them and I know there are about 3,000), 300 maps, 1200 books, 5 atlases and nearly 7 million digital images (not yet on-line). (Numbers are rounded a little.) I think it would be fine if you put that part of the page back with the numbers...I just didn't like the question marks. We have been filming in Italy full-time since 1966-1967, although we did film up in the Piemonte area (Waldensian records) in 1948.
As to the other part of the page...I've been thinking. The reference and links to Italy in general really wouldn't be too helpful genealogically, but if you want them there, go ahead and restore the page. What I would really like to see, after looking at the Welsh page, is similar to their parish register page. In each region's page, I have listed (or will list) each province. I think it would be very helpful to researchers if we linked each province to it's own page that listed all of the comuni that we have filmed in that province with a link to the catalog record(s) for that specific comune. What are your thoughts on that? That way researchers could be taken right to the catalog page that will give them the film numbers that they need. We could list every comune and just not have a link to the towns that are not yet on film. Bear in mind that the catalog is constantly being revised and I know there are some areas that are being re-cataloged right now for more detail. I would ask that I be allowed to do Toscana myself because I have been woking on a web page for that region for some time. Please let me know what you think.
Ok I will add the statistics. But upon reflection and a look around the wiki, I will move the premade searches to the articles on which they already exist but are just not linked yet eg:Italy Gazetteers talks about "Locality Search of the Family History Library Catalog" ITALY- POSTAL AND SHIPPING GUIDES. davide 09:31, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
7 million digital images[edit source]
Oh this caught my eye 7 million digital images (not yet on-line) Do you now which town they are for? davide 09:40, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
There are quite a few areas - we're just not allowed to release the information yet. Is there an area you're interested in? If it's one of yours, I'll let you know.
- Exciting times. I can see the following Trento Italy Baptism Records for the following Towns being worked on so far. I am more interested in the southern half of Italy( Basilicate Region & Catania Region), so far I have not made the link back to the Italian town my ancestors came from and only have a general Idea based on the surname. So I believe I will wait like everyone else. Thanks for the offer anyway. davide 23:52, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Moderator/Adopter issues coming to a vote[edit source]
As you probably already know, FamilySearch launched an Adopt-a-Page program at the Federation of Genealogical Societies conference over the summer. Many groups are signing up to adopt a page. We need your help in order to resolve some important questions about the relative roles that Moderators and Adopters ought to play and how they can work together. These questions and discussions are on the new FamilySearch Wiki Contributors' Corner forum. We are going to hold a vote on these issues by year's end, and the resolutions will change the roles Moderators and Adopters play, so please visit the forum and add your thoughts. Thanks!
