Census Template[edit source]

Hi David, I restore the code that you removed at 18:02, August 6, 2009. The only thing I found that was missing was a square bracket in the section for 1845. I also noted a stray Electoral Rolls in the section for 1930. If you compare the revision history for 17:52, August 6, 2009 with 22:30, August 6, 2009 you'll see what I mean.

I then inserted a default value for {{{1}}}, New York. No links are displayed as I guess they do not exist yet. You can replace the text after the pipe in to something else if you wanted to test with pages that exist. Let me know if I can help out anymore. --Steve 22:44, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Once you are happy with how this test is working out, you will need to create a new template such as {{Census}} or {{US Census}}. I see that you added the code {{Place|New York Census}} to New York Census Existing and Lost Federal Census Schedules and that it why it is not working as the code for the census pages are not included in the {{Place}} template.
Now that I can see that each page you want to show in the navbox will include the word census, you could change the code to so that the parameter does not need it. That would mean the template could be called by typing {{US Census|New York}}.
Also you will have a problem if you want to add {{US Census}} to New York Census as it already has {{Place}} and there is a limit of 100 ifexists that the wiki will process for each page. After that the code will not work as intended. --Steve 06:23, 9 August 2009 (UTC)
