Joy Bogar[edit | edit source]
2011 - 2014 • Member of the Wiki Content Team - working under the direction of Wilma Adkins (Wiki Content Team Lead). I am a part-time Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - assigned to the Family and Church History Department / Data Quality Zone / FamilySearch Wiki.
My assignments very daily from minute to minute. I love the variety and the constant change of assignments. One assignment that keeps on going is that of creating County Clickable Neighbor maps and teaching other missionaries to do the same. Assignments very with writing instructions, fixing and creating links, teaching, using excel to help create patterns for Wiki members to use in upgrading their state and county pages.
I've had the opportunity to welcome and thank new contributing members to the Wiki, and encouraged them to continue. Was responsible for changing the Featured Articles on the Main page of the Wiki and archiving them when taken down. I love finding, documenting and uploading images to articles on the Wiki and visually enticing searches to click on that article.
As far as education: Earned Masters Degree from Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID and a B.S. Degree from BYU, Provo, UT. Taught high school Physical Education for many years and have had the privilege to teach in the adult community (career counseling and business classes) the last 15 years of my teaching career - all in Northern California. Managed a restaurant with more than 70 employees - gaining much respect for excellent-superior customer service and kindness. I spent four years in sales traveling the USA working pro-tennis events as well as the largest USA state fairs and private conventions (Las Vegas).
My background in teaching and sales has enhanced my love for people from all over the world. Showing kindness and not judging others has been invaluable to me in developing a love for the people on this earth. I don’t have a background in ancestral research.....but because of "having the new eyes" (very little expertise), I have been able to greatly assist in the "look" of projects that a new person to genealogy might face - so they can be "instantly" successful in finding their ancestors.
