United States Census Military and Naval Forces

Census population schedules for military forts, bases, and Navy ships were often placed near the end of the rest of the regular population schedules for a county. A census may also have been taken of United States military personnel in foreign countries. For a few census years the military and naval forces (and diplomatic consulates) are on separate rolls of microfilm. The same was done with schedules for American Indians, and institutions (jails, hospitals, poor houses, and insane asylums).
