Notes[edit | edit source]

NOTE: To determine which digital records are likely to be found within a collection or to find missing images, see, How do I use the catalog to learn more about the collections in Historical Records?.

NOTE: Most missing records are available on microfilm. To view films, see Where do I find a family history center?

Known Issues[edit | edit source]

Question 1[edit | edit source]

Question 1: Some records are missing. Where can the records be viewed?
Answer 1: See answers below for information about known missing records and respective film numbers, if available, or alternate online location:

  • Maryland > Charles > Durham is missing census pages 112 and 113.
  • New Hampshire > Strafford > Wolfborough is missing census page 447.
  • Tennessee > Knox > Not Stated is missing census pages 368-396.
NOTE: Although the census pages are currently not available online, the names on the pages have been indexed. However, the records detail page indicates that the image is not available, and a film number is listed to order for viewing.

Question 2[edit | edit source]

Question 2: Some indexed records have name, event place or date errors. How can I determine the correct information?
Answer 2: View the document to verify the correct information. The event place and date can also be checked by searching the Catalog using the film number included in the record detail page. See Finding microfilm numbers in the catalog (55632). A list of known problems below provides correct indexing information:

  • Anderson County, South Carolina census records are incorrectly indexed with an Event Place: Lancaster County. The Anderson County census records can be found at Digital Folder Number: 004409473 > Images 212-389 of 769; Film 0022507.
  • Digital Folder Number: 004409696, Film 20634 contains the 1830 census records for Pike, Schuylkill, Wayne, and York Counties of Pennsylvania. In many instances, the census records’ Event Place are incorrectly indexed. The correct Event Place is generally written in the left margin.

Question 3[edit | edit source]

Question 3: The record detail page is linked to the wrong image. How can I find the correct image?
Answer 3: From the record detail page, use either the Event Place, or Page Number, or Film Number, or a combination of any of the search criteria, to find the correct image by clicking the right or left scroll arrow. Generally, the correct page is only off by one.
