  • The interior of the island was not discovered until 1879.
  • The exploration of Ramón Serrano in 1879 revealed that these lands were excellent for the cattle ranch. In the following expedition, in 1880, Jorge Porter discovered Porvenir Bay and found gold in the Boqueró sierra.
  • Since 1882, hundreds of American and European miners emigrated to the place, and the natives were cruelly persecuted and expelled.
  • The province of Tierra del Fuego has an approximate population of 7,000 people[1].
