  • Taltal was founded on July 12, 1858, part of the Atacama Province.
  • When the Province of Antofagasta was created in 1888, Taltal was incorporated in this province.
  • The nitrate crisis paralyzed the salt industry, and many residents moved to other countries.
  • The commune of Taltal has a population of approximately 13,500 people.[1]
