Log in problem[edit source]

The combined sign in is still a problem. Even the last item telling it not to notify me is not working. Firefox is not recognized. dsammy 17:34, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you be specific on the statements? What specifically is still a problem? It works for me, but have found some issues. What is the "last item" and what do you mean that "Firefox is not recognized"? I am using Firefox and it is never saying that it is not recognized. Thomas_Lerman 17:52, 12 January 2010 (UTC) P.S. Maybe you are referring to postings in the forum? Thomas_Lerman 17:54, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
That was already reported last week and nothing worked. I even checked your comments in different forums. Nothing worked.

How obnoxious is this? Being subjected to this every time I signed in and I already combined over a month ago. "Create a Single FamilySearch Account A FamilySearch account is now available that uses a single user name and password for the Research Wiki and other participating FamilySearch Web sites. The FamilySearch account is free and replaces your prior account. Do you have an existing Research Wiki account? Yes, then Upgrade to create your single FamilySearch account. No, then Register to create your single FamilySearch account. Or… Sign in with your single FamilySearch or LDS account. Don't show me this again when I sign in"

It was fine before this lousy change, abeit a 2 step to sign in. Now I have to go through 3 hoops in order to get to the page I need to go to. First sign in get me to this obnoxious page, then I get to my combined account after I click "Don't show me again when I sign in", then I get sent to the main page instead of the page I wanted to go in, in first place. Refresh doesn't work. dsammy 18:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

"Nothing worked"??? I am not sure what you are talking about. I have not made any suggestions on how to fix anything. I have only suggested being more specific (including browser, version, OS, and the exact issue) so that the engineers have something concrete to go on. I greatly appreciate the idea of single sign in and am glad we are on it in the Wiki. I look forward to it being on all of the products including the forums. Obviously, it will be nice when the rest of the issues are taken care of, but an extra step or two does not bother me in the slightest. I have more important things to be concerned about. I do mind! Especially when it is now taking me EIGHT steps from sign in to this very page now. I am using Firefox 3.5x and has been a long time user of Firefox without problems I am having now. Annoying 9 steps.

1. Sign in 2. the page asking me to consider combined account 3. Do NOT remind 4. Sign in (AGAIN!) 5. Combined Account page sign in 6. Main page 7. Community meeting main page 8. Community Agenda page 9. Discussion page

Before the combined account mess, it used to be this, with user id and type in password. 1. Sign in 2. back-page 3. refresh 4. You're in the page you wanted in first place.

Even before that, it was ONE step sign in with saved user id AND password.

How bad is it now? It's not improving, it is getting worse. dsammy 19:17, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Okay, now we are getting to some specifics. As an engineer type, I know the things that help the most are the most specific information including steps, versions, OS, etc.. I know you did not say this, but the least helpful comments are like, "It does not work, fix it." It sounds like you are having a few problems:
  1. "Do not show this again..." is not being remembered on the migration page
  2. Remembering user name and password is not being remembered on the sign in page
  3. What page you were on before trying to sign in is not being remembered
Now for my comments on those three items:
  1. I would guess that this is remembered through a cookie, which engineering will have to verify. If it is, I would just double check to make sure your cookies are being remembered through your preferences. This is working for me.
  2. Since this is not available at this time on the page, I am guessing you may be talking about the "Do you want Firefox to remember..." thing that may pop up on the screen. If you are and that is not showing up, I would suggest double checking that capability within your preferences as well. If you said, "Never at this site", then that is another issue. If you are wishing for this to be on the sign in page, I believe it was discussed that they viewed this as a security issue and would not be implemented. I do not know if this is being reconsidered or not. I am getting Firefox asking if I want it to remember, but I do not let it.
  3. I know of several ways that it can remember the originating page, but do not know which method it is using. This is something that engineering will have to look into. It works very well for me on Firefox.
I personally would not call what you described as an 8 step process, but that is okay. This is how I see the steps in a more generic way:
  1. Clicking on "Sign in" takes you to a page
  2. clicking sign in takes you to another page ("do not remind you" does not seem to work for you)
  3. actually sign in
  4. then you have to browse again to whatever page you were on.
If things were working like they do for me, it would eliminate what I call step 2 & 4.

User List[edit source]

There is no way to know how many new users in the past week. The user list has no feature to sort for dates to know whether combined sign in is working well or not. dsammy 17:40, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

To answer your first question. There is a way to see how many new users. Go to and check the 'Sort by creation date' and click the 'Go' button. As far as combined accounts go, no one except an administrator (sysop) can see other users' status with LDS Accounts. If you are concerned about your account and it's migration status you'll need to contact an administrator (sysop). I've looked at your account and it appears to have migrated/combined successfully. So please detail the issues that Thomas Lerman has requested so we can look into them. Don B. Stringham 19:22, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
