The first settler was Robert Beers who built a trappers cabin in the valley as early as 1864. Oskar “Cub” Johnson built his cabin in 1865 and Phineas W. Cook came in the spring of 1865. Ten year later 1875 five other families&nbsp;&nbsp;establish their home in Garden City. The town was also called Independence and Bellview. Community irrigation project was started on February 5, 1877, which became the Swan Creek Irrigation Company, this project water the area. The total population of the Garden City Precinct was 379 in 1930.
