[edit | edit source]
The North West Kent Family History Society was formed in 1978 with the object of aiding and encouraging the study of family history and genealogy in South East London and North West Kent.
Amongst its many advantages membership offers a quarterly Journal, Meetings with talks at each of our three venues and a Library which is open every Wednesday. The Society's Research Service operates from the library, and Workshops are held there on a regular basis, covering various computing and family history topics.
The Society publishes a range of CDs and booklets derived from our project work. These include transcripts; images of parish; cemetery registers, census returns and monumental inscriptions. We also make donations to record offices to help with the preservation and publication of their records.
The Society Library and Resource Centre is located at: Summerhouse Drive, Joydens Wood Estate, Bexley, Kent DA5 2EE England. Members and non Members are welcome to use the Library, there is no charge.
The Society has a room, separate from the main library, where our complete collection of books and other reference material is now available on open shelves. This includes microfiche, data CD's.
Computers with internet access are also available, this includes Ancestry and other on-line genealogical databases. A research service is offered for those unable to travel to the Library. Full details can be found at NWKFHS Library and at Research Service
