Brief History[edit | edit source]

Maxfield was originally established as part of the Brighton Academy grant. It is named after an early settler with the last name McIntosh. It was referred to as Mac's Field which later became Maxfield. The town was established in the 1820s and was destroyed by a forest fire in the late 1820s. Because of the fire many settlers left and never came back.
