- 1 The Marin County Genealogical Society (MCGS), was formed in May 1977, and serves the residents of Marin County, California.
- 1.1 The Society offers research services, and a research library, housing reference materials from California, the United States, and around the world.
- 1.2 It offers monthly General meetings, which feature a wide range of genealogical topics, and several Interest Group meetings, all of which are open to the general public.
- 1.3 The library resides in the San Rafael (Marin) Family History Center (FHC).
- 1.4 Please note that as of 29 January, 2020, this Family History Center and Library can only be used by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call 415-226-9501 leaving your name and phone number, or send an email to CA_SanRafael@familyhistorymail.org with your name and phone number. You will be contacted, probably within a few days, to schedule the appointment.

It is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that seeks to
- Promote interest in family history through education and sound research methods.
- Encourage stewardship of genealogical holdings.
- Provide a forum to share genealogical information.
