Mansel was first incorporated as a town from a part of Mount Desert in 1848, but that same year changed its name to Tremont, Hancock County, Maine Genealogy. Hardwood Island and Robinson's Island (now Tinker) were annexed in 1859 from the extinct town of Seaville; land was set off to form Southwest Harbor in 1905[1]
