  • Guazacapán turned out to be one of the original municipalities of the State of Guatemala.
  • On February 25, 1848 the Mita region of the department of Chiquimula was segregated, it became a department and was divided into three districts: Jutiapa, Santa Rosa and Jalapa.
  • Four years later, due to a decree of May 8, 1852, it was decided to create the department of Santa Rosa.
  • The municipality of Guazacapán has a population of approximately 14,000 people[1]
