  • From 1524 the Spaniards tried to conquer the Itza, who successfully resisted any attempt at Spanish conquest. In 1622 a military expedition left Yucatan that became a disaster in which the Spaniards were massacred by the Itza.
  • On September 12, 1839, the State of Guatemala was reorganized into seven departments and two independent districts.
  • The municipality of Flores has a population of approximately 145,000 people[1]
