Project Leader: Heather Mecham
Task List: Task List

Task List[edit | edit source]

Click here for the task list.

Instructions[edit | edit source]

Go go the Task List and choose a country to research.

Step 1.A. If Archives & Libraries Page Doesn't Exist[edit | edit source]

  1. Click on the country in the Task Bar to take you to that country's wiki page.
  2. Click on the red "Archives & Libraries" link to create the page.
  3. Paste in this code:
  4. COUNTRY-sidebar

    == Archives ==

    == Libraries ==

    == Museums ==

    == Record Offices ==

  5. Change COUNTRY to the name of the country.

Step 1.B. If Archives & Libraries Page Already Exists[edit | edit source]

  1. Make sure the page has these 4 headings:
  2. == Archives ==
    == Libraries ==
    == Museums ==
    == Record Offices ==
  3. If these headings are not on the page, add them.
  4. Put every place under the relevant heading (if they are not already there) and in the correct format.
    If there is any missing information for that place (i.e. address, email, telephone number, brief synopsis, etc.) add it.
  5. If there are other headings already on the page, add their content under the most relevant heading (of the 4) and delete that heading.
  6. If there is any content not under a heading (such as an introduction), put it under the most relevant heading.

Step 2: Research[edit | edit source]

Research every country to find relevant archives, libraries, museums, and record offices. Add these places under the relevant heading as follows:

Archives[edit | edit source]

Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (about goals and resources available) of each archive.

Note: include the actual name of the archive and the English version.
If there are many archives, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: national archives/regional archives/provincial archives, by county/region, etc.).

Example of how to add an archive:
Drejtoria e Përgjithshme e Arkivave (General Directorate of Archives)
Rruga "Jordan Misja"
Tirana, Albania
Telephone: +355 4 4541798
Email: dpa@albarchive.gov.al
Website: Albania Archives

The archives holds documents important to the nation's history and has an online catalog. The archives is a partner with World Digital Library.

Libraries[edit | edit source]

Include: name, address, telephone number, email, and website.

Note: include the actual name of the archive and the English version.

Biblioteka Kombëtare e Shqipërisë (National Library of Albania)
Sheshi Skënderbej
Tirana, Albania
Telephone: +355 422 23 843
Website: National Library

Museums[edit | edit source]

Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (about scope, purpose) of each museum.

Note: include the actual name of the archive and the English version.
If there are many museums, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: by county/region, by type, etc.).

Example of how to add a museum:
Muzeu Historik Kombëtar (National Museum of History)
Sheshi Skenderbej 7
Tirana, Albania

Record Offices[edit | edit source]

Include: name, address, telephone number, email, website, and brief synopsis (purpose, what they hold).

Note: include the actual name of the archive and the English version.
If there are many record offices, it is fine to add subheadings to organize them (such as: by county/region, etc.).

Example of how to add a record office:

Douglas, Isle of Man, IM2 2QS
Telephone: +44 (0) 1624 693569

Website: Public Record Office

The Isle of Man Public Record Office preserves the records of the government. These records include those from the national and local governments and the courts.

Helpful Websites[edit | edit source]

Translating the Website[edit | edit source]

Because you are researching in countries around the world, oftentimes websites will be in another language. There are a few ways to get around this:

  • When on the website, look at the top of the page for a button that will take you to the English version of the site (many international websites have this). This may look like a link that says "Other languages" or "English". It may look be a link that says the language the website is currently in. Or it may even be the British or United States flag (instead of a word). If you click on the link, it will either change the website to the English version or a dropdown will appear and you will then click on "English" to change it to that version.

  • After searching in Google to find the archive/library, look next to the link for the words "Translate this page". Google will translate the page for you when you click on the link.

  • When you are already on the page, right click on the mouse and click "Translate to English".

  • When already on the page, a popup may appear asking "Translate this page?"
