  • I experimented with signing an agenda item that was added by James a couple days ago. I think we should eventually think about developing an "unsigned" template to be used when editor forget to sign their comments. Since we don't have the template right now, I signed the agenda item manually for James.
Sorry about that, but given that, we do need one. Wikipedia has a way of doing this, given they have a lot of editors that don't sign in anyway, you will see this and the possible code on talk pages there. JamesAnderson 18:41, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

  • National Archives (United States) wiki.

The National Archives and Records Administration, commonly known as NARA, has set up their own wiki for the purpose of providing more information about their holdings. May prove very useful as things are added for general US or state wikiprojects. When good articles appear, it would be a good idea to link to the content.

1. On the fsbeta learning page can there be a link to the research wiki main_page?

Answer: There won’t be a link to the research wiki main page. The plan is to have the research wiki main page go away. The learning page will become the main page for wiki as well as all other research self help based products (Wiki, Course Catalog, Forums etc).

2. On the fsbeta main page can there be a link to the research wiki main_page?

Answer: The FS Beta main page is owned by Dan Lawyer and Robert Kehrer. There will not be a link to the wiki main page as the wiki main page is going away with FS Beta and being replaced by the learning main page. The FS Beta main page will be a search page for searching historical records, trees data, library catalog and other records collections. There will be a section at the bottom of these search results which will leverage the community search API to display results for wiki and in the future course catalog and forums.

3. It feels like the familysearch community is buried underneath the search for the individual. Can the community somehow get more visibility in the new fsbeta?

Answer: The plan is for the FamilySearch Community to be an aggregation of a lot of different communities such as the research wiki, course catalog, forums, indexing, FH consultants, content commenter’s, content rater’s etc . . . Users will be coming to FS Beta is expected to do a few main things such as, first, searching historical records, second, building their tree and finally, everything else which includes getting help, news / content updates, communicating with other community members, etc . . .) Community social media will be integrated throughout the FS Beta site, but this will take time to grow.

There is in the works a top-level navigation tab on FS Beta called, “Give Back”. This verbiage may change, however, the purpose of this tab is to call out the various ways that the FS communities can give back; indexing, wiki, course catalog, forums, etc . . .

4. What happens to Research Guidance once fsbeta becomes the new

Answer: Diane and her team is part of this audit for these areas that cover library and research help and support and legacy systems such as Research Guidance. The output from her team will determine the future of Research Guidance.
