History[edit | edit source]

Scandinavians from the Midwest settled this area in 1890. The Potlach Lumber Company decided to locate a station of the WA, ID & MT railway on this site. William Deary who was the general manager set up the town site and the town was named after him. In 1907 they began to sale lots and the town grew quickly. Deary became an agricultural community when in the 1920 the lumber business saw less activity.
