Description[edit | edit source]
The County was named is in honor of Brigadier General Leonard Covington of Maryland.[2]The county is located in the south-central area of the state.[3]

Covington County had destructive courthouse fires in 1839, 1878, and 1895, and was destroyed by flood in 1847.
