  • Originally, the land of Antofagasta belonged to the Province of Atacama, Bolivia. In 1829, the province was renamed Litoral, and was organized as a Coastal District in 1829.
  • In 1888, before the Pacific War, the land was transferred to Chile, and was organized as La Provincia de Antofagasta, including the Department of Taltal of the Atacama province.
  • La provincia de Antofagasta tiene una población aproximada de 374.000 personas.[1]
